During the weekend of March the 1-3 and 8-10 I had the honour of working as the assistent of Dutch conductor Arjan Tien. He was working intensly with the Antwerp Youth Symphony Orchestra on a wonderful programm of Brahms 4th Symphony and Dvorak Slavonic Dance op 72, no. 2.
Observing and helping Arjan in his rehearsal process was a unique experience. He definitely knows how to build an orchestra from the ground up and his trusted affinity for Brahms made for an intense and refined interpretation of this great symphony. A masterwork in its own right with its immaculate counterpoint, flowing cantilenes and thematic development; all these facets are incredible facets to work on and dive into.
I wholly thank Arjan for the great opportunity and his great support. The picture is of the dress rehearsal where I could substitute for a short time in the beautiful Queen Elizabeth Hall in Antwerp.
