Cantare e Toccare (op. 9)
duration: 7’00”
Cantare e Toccare draws on the fiery spirit of the classical toccata while speaking in a distinctly modern voice.
Sweeping, rubato melodies soar above dazzling rhythmic intricacies, colliding with dense harmonic layers that shimmer and overlap. The result is a kaleidoscopic sound world—restless, bold, and endlessly expressive—showcasing the organ’s power, nuance, and sheer versatility in a way that leaves a lasting impression.
Or better put in words by one of the audience members: “It’s a little like Reger, but then completely derailed.”
This piece is dedicated to organist Laurens de Man.
